I'm a hobby carver and have been carving for about 5years. I am completely self taught and have learnt to carve through trial and error. My spoons are not for sale. I design and carve them for family and friends, for birthdays, weddings and other special occasions.
All my spoons are carved by hand using traditional tools and techniques. I use a range of knives and chisels, depending on the design. Other than a drill press and fret saw which i use to rough out the spoon, the majority of the work is done by hand.
Each spoon takes around 20hrs to make with the majority of that time being spent on finishing.
Once the carving has been completed I use a range of abrasive papers and needle files, before applying coats of beeswax to finish. The majority of my spoons are carved from Lime, but I occasionally use maple.

All of my spoons are originals and will never be copied, although elements from some spoons are reused in new designs.
My designs are influenced by many different things, including nature, art, mythology, my clients and of course the work of other spoon designers, however I endeavour never to copy their designs only to use them as a source of inspiration.
